Join us for our annual showcase of instruments created by St. Louis-area students through The Sheldon SOLID (Science of Learning Instrument Design) Project during the 22-23 school year.
The Sheldon SOLID Project is a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math)-based program, created in collaboration with the Saint Louis Science Center, that challenges students to design and create their own musical instruments by following the steps of the engineering cycle. SOLID is designed to get students excited about creative problem solving by combining the creativity of the arts with STEM disciplines.
Schools participating in the showcase include Ascension Catholic School; Green Park Lutheran School; Hancock Place Elementary; Hawthorne Elementary School; Holy Trinity Fairview Heights; Jefferson Intermediate School; Julia Goldstein Early Childhood Center; Larimore Elementary; McKinley Classical Junior Academy; Most Sacred Heart Catholic School; Northview Elementary; Our Lady of Lourdes; Parkway West Middle School; St. Francis of Assisi School; St. Joseph School; Westridge Elementary; William Holliday Elementary School; and Word of Life Lutheran.
A full gallery exhibition highlighting a curated selection of of these instruments will be on view in the Sheldon Art Galleries through May 6. The galleries will be open on the evening of May 4 until 7 p.m. for viewing during the SOLID showcase.
