This season at The Sheldon, we’ve been celebrating curiosity and the many ways the shows making their way to our stage create opportunities for us to learn something new, think more deeply and re-discover our sense of wonder. What better way to do that than through a reading list inspired by this season’s concerts?

The brilliant minds in The Sheldon’s Education Department have teamed up with the literary experts at the St. Louis Public Library to curate a dynamic, wide-ranging reading list to accompany The Sheldon’s 2023-2024 concert season. From beloved classics to hidden gems, there’s something exciting for everyone to discover this season. We hope you’ll join us in this journey beyond the walls of our concert hall and into the pages of a great, new read.

Cuba: An American History by Ada Ferrer

Our top pick? Cuba: An American History by Ada Ferrer. Winner of the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in History, this book is an exploration of Cuba’s history from pre-Columbus times to the current day. From her decades of research, Ferrer paints a picture of the country and its relationship with the United States and illustrates its importance in shaping our shared histories.

Join us for a Sheldon Book Club Discussion for Cuba: An American History on Wednesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. We’ll talk about the book’s themes, especially as they relate to the Cuban artists making their way to The Sheldon this season.
