  • Jazz Icon Portraits

    Herman Leonard – an American photographer best known for his unique images of jazz icons – spent his years creating portraits of musicians in New York, Paris, and New Orleans. These photos, now valuable collector’s items, are a unique record of the jazz scene of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

    This pair of photos from The Sheldon’s collection capture Tony Bennett, who helped open the Sheldon Art Galleries in 1998. Both prints are signed by Leonard, and one includes a note from Tony himself – this image was used as the cover art for the Essential Tony Bennett CD released in 2002.
